Editor’s note: This post has been updated and republished. The ECF/SINDA/CDAC/MBMF donation fund contributions and CPF rates have been updated as of 2024. These rates are applicable and accurate for the current year until there is further revision.

What are Donation Funds?

All employees working in Singapore and/or for Singapore companies have to contribute a monthly CPF amount to their CPF (Central Provident Fund). This amount is taken out of one’s pay (or salary).

While most people are familiar with CPF contributions, many may not be aware that a portion of these contributions also goes towards supporting Self-Help Group (SHG) funds, commonly referred to as Donation Funds. These funds are instrumental in providing financial assistance to low-income households within specific ethnic communities in Singapore, including the Eurasian, Indian, Chinese, and Muslim communities.

These come in the form of small donations based on your earnings, and get funnelled into the respective funds, depending on which community you belong to.

If you’re an employee in Singapore, chances are you’ve already been making these contributions, which are deducted from your wages along with your CPF contributions. If you have your payslip with you, take a quick glance at it.

While the contribution rates usually remain stable for years, there have been updates in recent years, including 2015, 2016, and the most recent changes in 2021. In this comprehensive article, we will not only provide you with the updated ECF, SINDA, CDAC, and MBMF contribution rates for the year 2024 but also delve deeper into the history and significance of these funds.
